As it becomes necessary to replace blocks and other deck gear, we are replacing them with Harken equipment whenever possible. We have never had a failure to date, and they stand behind their products: When the bearings on our 16-year-old Harken jib roller furler system needed replacing, Harken found the parts and did it for a reasonable price, making it as good as new. Most companies would have told us to buy a new one. They have done a couple of small customization jobs for us cheerfully and efficiently. A great company!
John was born and brought up in Bermuda and started sailing as a child, racing locally and offshore before turning to cruising. He has sailed over 100,000 miles, most of it on his McCurdy & Rhodes 56, Morgan's Cloud, including eight ocean races to Bermuda, culminating in winning his class twice in the Newport Bermuda Race. He has skippered a series of voyages in the North Atlantic, the majority of which have been to the high latitudes. John has been helping others go voyaging by sharing his experience for 25 years, first in yachting magazines and, for the last 20 years, as co-editor/publisher of AAC.
I bought a well used and much travelled boat with mostly Harken gear. It is now “almost entirely Harken gear”, right down to the bosun’s chair. Their willingness to take trouble to help with even small items is impressive.
