We will not be publishing any Articles or Tips this week, or for most of next.
My daughter has just finished her residency and is now a fully qualified board certified paediatrician and so we are off to visit her and help celebrate the culmination of 12 long years of study, exams and residency (including premed).
And all that after a full career as a singer and dancer in musical theatre. She is an amazing woman, and of course I’m completely unbiased.
And that brings me to a riddle:
- Q: How do you know someone has a daughter who is a doctor?
- A: They will tell you.
Yes, this tip is a lot about boasting about my daughter and a little about telling you why there will be no content for a few days.
Anyway, I will be around in the comments from time to time, and when we get back we will be publishing two very useful articles from professional engineer Eric Klem:
- Right sizing an alternator to get maximum power without damaging our engines.
- A step by step guide to programming sophisticated regulators, like the Wakespeed WS500, to vary alternator output by engine rpm (whitespace programming), which will allow us to safely run larger alternators.
What fantastic news—congratulations to your daughter! Enjoy your well-deserved break and family celebration.
Hi John,
Yes, fantastic news: News which absolutely has to be shared.
When the occasion arises, I label my missives with “Proud Papa Alert”.
Enjoy the visit. Dick
Congratulations to you all! I’ve also been through the same experience with my wife and daughter. You have every right to be to proud! And so does she. That’s quite a journey.
All the best, enjoy your family time.
Mitchell
John,
As a retired pediatrician who taught in a residency program, I can say without fear of contradiction that to enter medicine after another career increases the likelihood that you will be able to manage the stresses and the challenges of the new career. Maturity and resilience pay big dividends for both patients and practitioners. Where did she do her residency and what is she going to do next?
Bruce
Hi Bruce,
Thanks for the kind words and I think you are right, particularly in Sarah’s case since musical theatre is a tough business. When they say the “show must go on” they mean it! As to what comes next, she is taking a well deserved couple of months off, with one locum, and then will be splitting her time between two 2C NICUs. She did both her residency and med school at MacMaster.
Excellent. As my brother once said in an article in the Washington Post, “The best medical school in America isn’t in the United States. It’s in Canada-MacMaster.”
Hi
As a retired pediatrician, I congratulate your daughter upon her graduation from residency. The practice is the worst and best of professions. The children she cares for will become “her kids”
And I hope she enjoys watching them pass thru each phase of childhood
And I hope she never forgets to get on a sailboat. Nothing is better stress relief from the practice of medicine
Paul
Congrats to the proud papa and especially the newly minted doc!
Congrats to your daughter ,enjoy well earned family time
Congratulations on your daughter’s magnificent achievement. Pride in your kids is not a sin and any time you have a few hours to spare, I shall happily expound on mine 👍. The upcoming article on Wakespeed white space programming is eagerly awaited.
Congratulations to you and your daughter – how wonderful!
