Websites, particularly ones as feature rich as AAC, are a lot like cruising boats: a home for the law of unintended consequences. Fix one thing and break something else.
A few weeks ago, as part of my never-ending campaign to keep the site fast loading, I subsetted the icon font to make it smaller, and in so doing busted two comment features:
- Edit our own comments.
- Upload a photograph to our own comments.
Both are now fixed and, in addition, I increased the edit time to 30 minutes from 15, and the maximum image size to two megabytes from one.
See the above image for tips on how to use these features, or visit our comment tips page for more detailed instructions.
Please leave a comment here if you find anything else I busted.
Unfortunately, the limitation that images can only be uploaded on Articles and Chapters, but not Tips, is still in place, but I plan to work on that in the coming weeks.
Thanks for fixing this, although I admit, I hadn’t noticed it was broken! 🙂
As a new member here, one thing that I would find useful is a means of tracking which articles I have read. The CSS doesn’t seem to show followed links in a different colour, and since I am often reading through several of the books at a time, and occasionally going down a rabbit hole following suggested links that end up being articles elsewhere in the book, I often begin reading an article only to realise that I’ve read it already. Of course, for some articles, re-reading is a good idea, but I wonder if some means of flagging an article as read could be incorporated? Or maybe it is, and I haven’t noticed.
Thanks for a great site, which has been very helpful in navigating the process of finding out next cruising boat. We have finally done so, and hope to begin cruising again in the new year.
Hi Shawn,
I don’t know of any method that would do exactly that. That said there is code I could add that would allow you to bookmark articles. I have thought of that, but then tend to decide not to because every piece of code I add has the potential to slow the site down, so these things are always a trade off (like boats). What about just using your browser’s book mark feature to keep track of the articles you have read?
