Kurt started sailing Lasers and the family’s Catalina 30 on Lake Travis in Austin, Texas in the early 80s and has continued sailing ever since. He currently sails and races a J/88 at the Austin Yacht Club.
Most of Kurt’s vacations time as been spent sailing in the Caribbean and more recently on the East Coast and offshore. He hopes to retire to a cruising lifestyle in the next few years.
Kurt has a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and has spent 34 years in a variety of roles relating to the design and construction of large industrial and institutional buildings.
Now that we understand the forces and angles at work, Kurt shares a method and spreadsheet to calculate the actual forces on our own boats so that we can build a safe preventer system.
