Mick O'Flanagan

Mick has been a soldier—although being Mick, he did precious little soldiering and a lot of sailing—and ran a bike shop before setting off 15 years ago with his wife and partner Bee as full-time cruisers. The two of them on their ferro-cement gaffer "Hannah" have made multiple Atlantic crossings and cruised challenging high latitude destinations like Greenland and Labrador. Their low-key cruising style is best summed up by "Not all who wander....are lost" (J. R. R. Tolkien).

Cruising On Less Than $15,000/Year, Including The Boat—What It Takes

January 25, 2021March 10, 2016 by Mick O'Flanagan
Reading Time: 9 minutes

Mick and Bee have cruised for 15 years and over 70,000 miles on less than US$250,000 all told, including the purchase price of their gaffer, Hannah. And they have numerous northern high latitude cruises under their belt. Mick writes about what it takes to make live-aboard cruising possible on a tight budget.
