Meet the Author

John was born and brought up in Bermuda and started sailing as a child, racing locally and offshore before turning to cruising. He has sailed over 100,000 miles, most of it on his McCurdy & Rhodes 56, Morgan's Cloud, including eight ocean races to Bermuda, culminating in winning his class twice in the Newport Bermuda Race. He has skippered a series of voyages in the North Atlantic, the majority of which have been to the high latitudes. John has been helping others go voyaging by sharing his experience for twenty years, first in yachting magazines and, for the last 12 years, as co-editor/publisher of AAC.

Thank you both for sharing your lives, experiences and knowledge. Here in the midwest, far removed from the beauty of your world, I always eagerly await your emal. Have a wonderful 2018.

    Tremendous pictures !
Reminding us of the last three years spent on the Norwegian West Coast.
The Norwegian Cruising Guide has been a superb inspiration source for us and we have seen many a sparkling spot, that we would not have found on our own.

Reading your AAC issues during the years has been thoughtful additions to our cruises and we wish you both a Prosperous and Eventful New Year !

It’s rare I like a slideshow this much. Happy New Year, John and Phyllis. You’re both inspirational.

Thank you for nice greetings! I wish you a great 2018. I have spent some of the holidays reading your new Norwegian Cruising guide 8 edition just published. I have so far read the first 4 volumes. Volume 5 on Svalbard will be to morrow. The books are very good and I will advice others to read them. You have done a big job! Both my boats are frozen firmly in the sea ice. Then it is nice to read a good book and plan the next sailing season.

      Hi Svein-Erik,

Thanks for the kind words. Goes a long way to make the three winters of hard work it took to put the latest edition together worth it.

You will like the Svalbard volume too, I think. Hans Jakob and Eli did a huge amount of work there two years ago.
