I believe that to be a good seaman, we must constantly question the way we do things. Easy to say, hard to do. Particularly if you’re like me, just a tad opinionated—I often say about myself, “John Harries, often wrong, never in doubt”.

Still, I’m working at it, and to that end this post is about jacklines and tethers and how I have been making a dangerous assumption and was about to make the situation even worse.
