Photo Short—A Foggy Point In Maine

by John on April 4, 2010 · 7 comments

I have long been meaning to do a full photo essay on Stonington, Maine, home of Billings Diesel and Marine, where Phyllis and I have spent so much of the last five years. First during the “Interminable Refit” and now while replacing Morgan’s Cloud’s engine.

But such a project (the essay, not the engine) would take time I don’t have right now. So here is what Phyllis suggested I call a “Photo Short”: A few grab shots of a place we really like, taken in the course of getting other things done (the engine out mainly) in the last two weeks. As you can see, Stonington is still a real fishing town and we like that. Or as they say around here, Stonington: a drinking town with a fishing problem.

Now that the new software we are using makes it easy to post slide shows, we are thinking of making these Photo Shorts a regular thing. What do you think? Leave a comment.

Oh, and if you are one of our gear-head readers and think that posts like this are a waste of your time, just skip this one. And don’t worry, I’m working on more navigation and engine replacement posts.

Click on the photo and the slide show will get bigger as long as you have a reasonably recent version of Flash installed on your computer.

Slideshow requires a reasonably up to date copy of the Adobe Flash plug in (iPhone/iPad support, coming soon) and that java script be enabled.

Quality at full frame is outstanding. I love that softness the fog provides. Thank you.

John, I remember you getting to the village ( Green Turtle Cay, Abacos ) early in the morning, to frame the beauty of that small village. You have done it again at Stonington with that strong sense of architectural shooting and coloring , you very personal touch. You really are a great photograph.Thank you!

Thanks to all for the kind comments. Stonington is a great place to take photographs and fog only makes it better.

Since we did not get any negative comments about this digression from our more normal technical posts, we will make “Photo Shorts” a more frequent feature.

John,

great shots…..I’ve been going to mid-coast Maine every summer for nearly 40 years (primarily Boothbay Harbor), you capture the essence of coastal Maine perfectly.
